Clinton for President not Vice President

I was thinking about two comments I read one was yesterday  and the other was I think at least a month ago.

This isn't a quote so please forgive me but basically she said Clinton as VP might not be the best use of her talents. When I read this I was a bit surprised but didn't think about it enough.

Then another commentator said something similar which made me start to really think about it and ask myself some questions.

Let me be clear from both comments I gathered that both thought
Clinton would make an excellent VP but it wouldn't be the spot they would choose for her.

Since Senator Clinton ended her run I have convinced myself that there isn't anyone who can help Obama more than Clinton and that goes for Gore too. So from this point of view I haven't changed my mind as to wanting CLINTON in fact I want her MORE as each day passes.

But I do think it's important to ask

Would Clinton be restricted by being VP? In the past the VP job wasn't too exciting but then came Cheney.

If Clinton became Vice President this would be historic. Is this more important than passing laws that would change people's
lives?

If you supported Clinton for President is it possible that you wouldn't choose her as VP because she would be more useful in another position?

What would that position be?  In charge of universal health care?

What are Vice President Clinton's chances of winning the Presidency after eight years?

I don't have answers for some of these questions and I would appreciate any replies because it quite frankly never occured to me that Clinton supporters who worked so hard to make her President might consider the VP position not the best use of her skills
I really don't know as much as I should about Senator Clinton so for the people who know her better please tell me where you would love to place her and who you would pick as VP to replace her.

For those of you wanting to know my take on things just read my past diaries under the usernmame of politicalslave. I will change my life by moving to Vancouver Canada next week so a new life and a new name Canadian. Here's to change!

A few things (none / 0)

Historically, the VP position has not been that important... Funerals and parties really.

But since 92 its gotten a bit more power w/ Gore being involved in policy initiatives... then came Cheney the power hungry fool.  The VP position carries a lot more wait now than it did 20 years ago.

But if you're asking what other roles she would be stronger in, i'd say one is Senate Majority Leader. Personally, I would like to see her as a justice on the SC smacking Alito and Scalia around like the little assholes they are.

I am not afraid of losing her in the Senate, its NY, it wont go to a republican.

Re: Clinton for President not Vice President (2.00 / 1)

I don't want Clinton to be the VP nominee for this reason:

If an Obama / Clinton ticket loses (which, frankly, is less likely than Obama / almost anyone else) the Obama people will blame her for that, too. Despite her grace in conceding the race in June, there is still deep resentment of Hillary in parts of the Obama camp.

Besides, while I think that a Clinton pick gets Obama closer to the finish line as a victor than he currently is, there is some risk in Clinton for him. I fear that if Obama picks Clinton, or Gore, or Biden, or Nunn he risks looking like a junior partner on the ticket. Kind of like Bush / Cheney in 2000.

Re: Clinton for President not Vice President (none / 0)

Ok while I think she would be a excellent VP, I too have always wondered would she really want it. Will it give her the platform to work on those issues she cares about, health care and children's issues?

If she is a Cheney type VP maybe, but that would be up to Obama and not her. However she stays in the Senate she is in control. And yes she would be a good majority leader, if she patient about getting there since she is way down on the seniority list. I also like the SC idea, but the Democrats would have to be in true control of the Senate. The Republicans would fight it tooth and nail :)

Finally chance of winning the presidency after eight years. By historical measures slim. The same party has remained in the White House after eight years only once since 1952.

Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.

What makes you think that Reid and Durbin would (2.00 / 1)

want to give up their power? Why should they? Do you think people like McCaskill and Kerry would want her as Senate majority leader?

You may not agree with What I say but don't forget I am a Democrat

Re: Clinton for President not Vice President (none / 0)

I have the impression that Obama would let her run with something like Universal health care or something else and I imagine they would talk about this before "joining forces"

Re: Clinton for President not Vice President (2.00 / 1)

the problem with any politician for SC is that 90% of what the SC does, if not more, is in highly technical legal issues which do not touch on hot button issues. And politicians live for hot button issues. the newscasts highlight the sexy issues but that is not the core of what SC does. No matter how much fun it seems that whupping Roberts and Alito might be, she would spend most of her time contemplating the relative weight and enforceability of old precedents, the priority of administrative actions, the exact wording of rulings, obscure Railroad law, the english history of the writ of xyz and that sort, and the kind of stuff that politicians leave the law so they won't have to do.

Re: Clinton for President not Vice President (1.00 / 0)

The problem with this choice is you actually have to win the primaries to be chosen as president.  And thanks to Bill and her more ardent supporters, the temperature in Hades will have to post absolute zero before she ever becomes the party's nominee

Isn't it ironic... (1.00 / 1)

that various loons considered Sen. Obama supporters as being part of a cult when it turns out that the Hillary die-hards are actually the ones who can't stop worshipping their candidate?

You're right. Being vice president of the U.S. is beneath her talents. Hell, so would being president.

Let's just make her Queen Goddess of the Universe. Would that please you folks?
